PVD or Physical Vapor Deposition is a variety of vacuum deposition methods used in the deposition of thin films. The history of this treatment is linked to the development of vacuum technologies, and the discovery of electricity and magnetism together with the study of the chemistry of gaseous phases.

Coatings realised using PVD are used in every sector where hardness, wear and corrosion resistance are required. Using PVD it is possible to coat objects with materials that could otherwise not be obtained through electroplating. Among these, for example, are titanium nitride and titanium carbide as used in cutting tools, molds, automotive components, optical lenses, spectacles, semiconductors, touch screens, the aerospace industry, prosthetics, and even for decorative purposes.
